A Lake County Schools student described progressing from basic construction projects to being placed on a Habitat for Humanity crew, saying the experience confirmed a desire to pursue carpentry and a career in construction.
"My junior year is the first time I got put on the crew, which is where you go build the house for Habitat for Humanity. It's a really great experience," the student said. They added that construction classes teach both hands-on and academic skills, including "how to do roofing, how to do bird's mouth cuts."
The student also said they participated in ROTC from freshman year, which they credited with enhancing leadership and involvement. Combining those experiences, the student said they "whittled down to the branch that I want, which is Marine Corps" and that they "ship in June now after high school after I graduate." The segment presents this as a personal plan rather than a district-enforced placement.
No formal enlistment paperwork or district action is recorded in the segment; the clip is a student testimony about career intention and skills gained through coursework and volunteer construction projects.
