Solano County presented the 20th-anniversary Centenarian Week commemoration and viewed a video montage honoring local residents aged 100 and older. Matthew Davis from the County Administrator's Office told the board the county has recognized 378 centenarians over 20 years and is honoring 52 this year, with a combined 5,276 years of life among honorees.
Davis described how the yearbook and video are prepared, how staff contact facilities and families and how the county preserves the stories in print and video. He said copies of the yearbook and the video will be delivered to centenarians and their families and made available at the county library's nine locations. The board approved the recognition resolution 5-0 and members praised staff and volunteers for preserving seniors' histories.
Several centenarians and family members shared brief memories during the video segment and supervisors noted the ceremony's cultural and community value.
