A resident who identified herself to the board as Cheryl Morton told the supervisors she spoke for a neighborhood opposed to a proposed Dimension Energy solar farm that would sit in the middle of their homes and on productive farmland.
"We don't have anything against renewable energy," Morton said. "But we do have a problem when big business come to a small community and try to take over our community and put whatever they want in our community and think we're supposed to sit back and take it." She said neighbors have signed petitions and the planning commission had recommended denial.
The chair advised that the matter would come before the board next month; the minutes show the planning commission voted 8-0 against the measure and the county staff said the application will be on the next supervisors meeting agenda for formal consideration.
No formal vote on the solar application was taken at this meeting. The board noted public concern and the chair encouraged residents to attend the upcoming hearing and provide written comments through the planning process.
