The Bristol Bay Borough Assembly voted Sept. 5 to narrow its search to three finalists for borough manager and directed its search consultant to begin candidate vetting and set up formal site visits for consideration on the assembly’s Sept. 14 agenda.
Assembly member (S5) moved “that the Bristol Bay Borough Assembly in accordance with Bristol Bay Borough code 2.20.010 and Alaska statute Title 29, based on demonstrated merit and fitness select Winters, Swain, and Thacker as our finalists for the position of borough manager. Direct our search consultant to proceed with candidate due diligence and outreach in place for formal site visit adoption on our September 14 regular meeting agenda.” The motion was seconded and carried with four ayes; Lisa Anderson abstained.
The vote followed a public reconvening after an executive session in which no formal action was taken. The chair said the assembly would “now deliberate in public” and asked members to narrow their choices to three candidates each based on merit and fitness; members’ selections repeatedly included the three finalists the assembly advanced.
Assembly members directed the consultant to perform due diligence and outreach and to coordinate formal visits. The clerk told members that formal interviews were expected to be held in open public session and suggested allocating 75–90 minutes per candidate. The assembly asked the clerk to return a proposed schedule on Sept. 14 so the members can finalize interview dates and formats.
Next steps noted on Sept. 5: the consultant will begin vetting the three finalists and Crystal (staff) will work with Tim Pearson and the consultant to set interview dates; the assembly expects to discuss and confirm logistics at its Sept. 14 meeting.
