The Brooksville City Council adopted the fiscal year 2027 budget and set the city's ad valorem millage rate at 6.5000 mills during its final public hearing on Sept. 23, 2026. The clerk read Resolution 20 26 21 setting the millage pursuant to section 200.065, Florida Statutes, and the council then approved the resolution on a roll-call vote that the clerk recorded as 4–1. Autumn Sullivan, the city's finance director, told the council the tentative general fund is balanced at a 6.5000 millage and that the level would maintain about $2,800,000 in reserves.
The council also adopted Ordinance 10-23 on second and final reading, appropriating monies for the city's operations for the 12-month period beginning Oct. 1, 2026; the ordinance, read by the clerk, takes effect Oct. 1, 2026. A council member who opposed the rate proposed reducing it to 6.2 mills and cited a roughly $274,500 difference in projected property tax revenue between the two rates; after discussion and public-comment opportunities with no speakers, the council voted to approve the budget and millage. The clerk recorded the roll-call as: Council member McKeithen — Aye; Council member Hallow — Aye; Council member Earhart — Nay; Vice mayor Bronson — Aye; Mary Tanner — Aye. Outcome: resolution and ordinance adopted.
