Several residents used the public‑comment period to urge commissioners to reconsider fee increases and large capital spending plans.
Robin Mata, who gave her address to the board, said fee increases and licensing changes would disproportionately affect people who are financially vulnerable in the county and criticized what she described as a power play over funding priorities. “I don't think she needs that,” Mata said, referring to a prior license/security proposal; she urged commissioners to think broadly before spending large sums on projects such as courthouse renovations and to consider moving departments into underused county jail space to contain costs.
Dino Mara, who also provided his address, said the vehicle fee proposals were essentially internal budget moves that shift taxpayer dollars without reducing overall burden, noting many residents travel to neighboring counties for services to avoid county fees. Both speakers urged caution and called for more transparent communication with residents about budget decisions before pursuing fees that would affect low‑income households.
