The Tamarac City Commission initially voted down a motion to adopt the FY2027 operating and capital budget (Temporary Ordinance No. 2636). After a short recess to allow staff to reassess, the commission voted unanimously 5–0 to reconsider the defeated motion and then approved an amended budget by a 3–2 roll call.
City Manager and Finance Director Priscilla Moxie presented the changes achieved during the recess: an administrative exercise that applied a 3% across-the-board reduction to operating expenditures in the general fund while excluding three areas (fire services, the commission's office and parks and recreation). Moxie said the review reduced the general fund by roughly $2.0 million and produced a new revised total for the operating and capital budget. "With the adjustment of the 3%, it therefore leaves the total operating and capital budget at [revised number]," Moxie summarized for the commission.
The final roll call on the amended ordinance was: Commissioner Wright — yes; Vice Mayor Bolton — yes; Commissioner Patterson — yes; Mayor Michelle Gomez — no; Commissioner Keisha Daniel — no. The adopted appropriations are scheduled to take effect Oct. 1, 2026, the start of FY2027. Commissioners debated whether the parks exemption was equitable during deliberations; staff said the exclusion preserved public-facing programming and facilities while the 3% target applied to operating (non-personnel) costs in other departments.
