City staff and consultants from WGI presented design details for the Northwest 94th Avenue project, a multi-jurisdictional complete-streets effort between the cities of Sunrise and Tamarac.
Sharon Fonseca of WGI explained components in the Tamarac limits, saying, "we are including the 5 foot bike lanes for both sides" and describing ADA ramps, valley gutters, pavement-marking plans and drainage improvements. The team said they plan to complete work in Tamarac between June 1 and Aug. 15 so construction in front of schools is timed for summer breaks.
Consultants noted that the project was submitted to FDOT and that both cities have reviewed plans; design completion is estimated for winter 2026, with construction estimated to begin fall 2027 and end fall 2028. Diego Quintero and other team members said the project fills a gap in bike-lane connectivity between Sunrise and Tamarac and that the funding is through the Local Agency Program (LAP), meaning WGI and the project budget do not require the City of Tamarac to pay the construction costs for the Sunrise portion.
During Q&A, the mayor asked staff to accommodate school start dates and commissioners confirmed the team had coordinated with the school board and neighboring jurisdictions. Officials emphasized coordination for drainage given recent heavy rains and the schedule constraint to minimize impacts on students during the school year.
