Tamarac issues a slate of proclamations and community recognitions, from service dogs to Hispanic Heritage Month

The Tamarac commission used its ceremonial portion of the agenda to recognize multiple observances and community programs.

Mayor Michelle J. Gomez presented proclamations for National Service Dog Month to Nicole Ortiz and others connected to Canine Companions. A recipient said, "Service dogs play such an important role for people like myself," and the mayor invited group photos. The commission also read a proclamation for Food Waste Prevention Week and accepted remarks from a representative of the Climate Reality Project and the League of Women Voters about the local solid-waste context.

Other proclamations included Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15'Oct. 15), National Preparedness Month (with remarks from Fire Chief Jonathan Frazier urging residents to sign up for Code Red and maintain emergency kits), National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (Officer James Twigger urged phishing vigilance and multi-factor authentication) and Customer Service Week (Human Resources Director Danielle Durgan highlighted about 450 city employees who provide day-to-day services).

During public comment Stuart Webster described local Dolly Parton Imagination Library activity and asked the city to recognize "9 to 5 Dolly Day"; he said more than 153 Tamarac children have been registered through a local partnership and invited city support.
