The Huber Heights Military and Veterans Commission on Sept. 23 confirmed logistics and speaker plans for the city Veterans Day ceremony at the veteran memorial in Cloud Park, and asked members and participants to be on site well before the ceremony start.
The commission’s lead (Chair) said the event will begin early and asked participants to arrive for a mandatory dry run: "We start at promptly at 1600 hours," the Chair said. The commission confirmed Chief (Staff) Sergeant D'Alessandro would speak on the Chair’s behalf and said the junior ROTC and the Young Marines remain backup options to present the colors and wreath if the base does not send a representative. "I gotta have everything done by tomorrow, Friday at the latest," the Chair said, describing a need to finalize names and program details.
Members talked through staging and set-up: a podium will face the memorial, flags and the everlasting flame will be on site, and speakers and those seated behind the podium will be positioned to face the audience. The commission emphasized securing the wreath after a prior incident and agreed to provide at least one backup presenter if a scheduled unit cannot attend. The Chair said the commission will send a timeline by email to confirm arrival times and a public schedule in the week ahead.
The commission directed members to have speakers and clergy on site no later than 15:15–15:30 to allow a full run-through with color guards and presenters. The commission is scheduled to meet next month for final checks before the Nov. 11 event.
