The Seadrift City Council voted to approve a memorandum of understanding allowing Calhoun County to apply for a Matagorda Bay Mitigation Trust grant to renovate the Mayfront Pavilion and install new refrigerant at the building. Commissioner Gary Reese told the council the county would file the grant and that, if awarded, the project would "be with no cost to the city."
Council discussion before the vote centered on scope and cost. Reese gave an estimated project figure: "... it'll round up $608,000." After a motion and a second, multiple council members responded "Aye" and the presiding officer announced, "Motion carries," approving the MOU so the county may pursue grant funding.
The MOU authorizes county filing only; no construction contract was awarded and the city was told there would be no direct city expense if the grant is secured. Council members did not vote on specific construction contracts during the meeting; the next steps described were to allow the county to proceed with the grant application process.
