Jan and Richard White’s application to add a roof and screens over a 10x20 deck at 179 Center Avenue (ZB26‑006) was approved Sept. 23 after testimony from architect Timothy Klesse and the homeowners.
Klesse told the board the family sought the roof and screens for practical reasons, including persistent mosquitoes at the backyard site, and that the overall property is still under the allowable floor‑area ratio by a substantial margin. "The FAR is under by 896 square feet," Klesse said during testimony, and he explained the existing deck sits on open piers so converting it to an enclosed, conditioned room would require new foundation work. The board discussed memorialization options to limit future unconstrained conversions and required compliance with technical comments in a Boswell Engineering letter dated 07/29/2026.
After board deliberation members found the request modest and unlikely to harm neighbors. The board moved and seconded the application and, by roll call, recorded affirmative votes from the present members; the application was approved subject to compliance with technical report items.
