President Keith Heistler opened the Sept. 23 Fond du Lac City Council meeting by reading a proclamation designating Oct. 4–10, 2026 as Fire Prevention Week for the city and urging residents to adopt safer battery‑charging habits.
"I, Keith Heistler, president of the FondeLac City Council, do hereby proclaim October 4th through the 10th, 2026 as fire prevention week throughout FondeLac and urge all residents to learn about and practice safe charging habits," Heistler said. The proclamation cites the growing presence of lithium‑ion batteries in phones, laptops, e‑bikes and other devices and lists simple safety tips, including using manufacturer‑approved chargers, charging on hard flat surfaces and unplugging devices when fully charged.
A representative of the Fond du Lac County Fire Department thanked the council for recognizing the week and invited the public to an open house at the Fond du Lac County Fairgrounds on Tuesday, Oct. 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. The proclamation notes the 2026 Fire Prevention Week theme, "Charge into fire safety: safely charging is a superpower," and urges public education and outreach to reduce home fire risk.
