Sam, introduced as the new middle school principal, told the board the building will pursue ambitious but staged stretch-growth goals for the 2026–27 year and emphasized structures to support student ownership of data and in-school interventions.
The principal said the school aims to raise the share of students meeting stretch-growth goals in reading from 18% to 23% and in math from 24% to 29% as measured by i-Ready, and to move students-with-disabilities who are performing below average toward the 26th percentile benchmark (from 22% to 28%). Sam described daily structures, including a built-in “power hour” for targeted reading or math support and schoolwide literacy strategies so that all teachers incorporate reading skills in content instruction.
Sam said these programs are intended to be monitored through interim assessments and leadership-team collaboration; no board vote was requested, and administrators said they will return with progress reports as the year progresses.
