Mesa told reporters that Education Cannot Wait will commit $3 million in emergency funding to reach children most affected by the conflict in Gaza. "Education Cannot Wait is committing $3 million in emergency funding for some of the most vulnerable children in Gaza," she said, and added that the funding will be delivered through local organizations because they are already in place and able to sustain services.
Mesa and Gordon Brown both warned the announced allocation is a small portion of the total emergency requirement. Mesa noted that the global education cluster has put the Gaza education envelope at "upward of hundred million dollars," and described the $3 million as seed funding that can reach "up to 13,000" injured children for prosthetics, assistive devices, psychosocial counseling and other supports to enable reintegration into learning.
