Mesa told reporters ECW announced a $22 million package—announced on Aug. 24—to support several hundred thousand crisis-affected children in Sudan and neighboring refugee-hosting areas. "I went there to announce $22 million in funding to support several hundred,000 children," she said, and clarified that the program will reach about 200,000 children and adolescents through Save the Children and local partners.
According to Mesa, the Sudan support focuses on regions where education systems face near collapse and is designed to restore safe learning, provide teacher support and protect vulnerable children so they can return to school. She named implementation in Gedaref, West Darfur and South Kordofan (as spoken in the briefing) and described the work as multi-year and targeted to both children inside Sudan and Sudanese refugees in neighboring countries.
