A presenter outlined services from TAPS, saying the nonprofit provides grief support programs for surviving family members of military personnel, including children, parents and veterans. The speaker emphasized that the services are provided at no cost and include seminars on available benefits and resources.
"TAPS is a national nonprofit organization that provides care and programs for all who are grieving the loss of a military loved one," the presenter said. The presenter also noted a peer mentor program that "trains adult survivors to support one another," stressing the value of connection among those with shared experience.
The presenter provided the National Military Survivor Helpline number and described it as a round-the-clock resource. "TAPS provides a 24/7, 365-day support line through National Military Survivor Helpline at 1-800-959-TAPS (8277)," the presenter said, adding that the line offers listening, referrals and opportunities to remember the loved one.
The presenter also encouraged surviving family members to use the seminars and materials TAPS distributes to help navigate benefits and paperwork. The presentation framed TAPS as a long-term support option rather than a short-term counseling referral.
