Mohammed Jello argued that preventive diplomacy is a practical instrument that can change the course of nations, citing the Gambia's 2017 experience when international preventive diplomacy supported a peaceful democratic transition. "It taught us that preventive diplomacy is not an abstract concept. It is a practical instrument for preventing confrontation, creating space for dialogue and protecting institutions," he said.
He urged that preventive diplomacy be paired with predictable, sustained resources and stronger early‑warning systems so crises can be averted rather than managed after violence begins. Jello also called for a better‑resourced Peacebuilding Commission and support for United Nations peace operations, with attention to personnel safety, accountability and coordination with regional partners such as the African Union.
