Union County recognized Deputies Brandy Grant and Lucas Jacobs at a recent county meeting for separate life‑saving responses, a presenter said.
Deputy Brandy Grant was honored for her response to a medical emergency in Indian Trail. According to the presenter, Grant “lifted the individual from the floor and performed the Heimlick maneuver, successfully dislodging the obstruction [music] and restoring the individual's ability to breathe.” The presenter said Grant then helped the person into a chair, monitored the person’s condition and remained with them until emergency medical personnel arrived.
The presenter also recognized Deputy Lucas Jacobs for his response to a domestic disturbance that “quickly became a medical emergency.” The presenter said Jacobs intervened to secure the scene, provided life‑saving aid to a woman who had serious stabbing injuries and directed fellow deputies to attend to other injured individuals.
A meeting participant praised the awards, saying, “You don't realize what those officers were faced with when you went in there,” and urging the county to continue recognizing deputies “who are out here every day doing the job that they pay to do.” The remarks were followed by applause.
No formal motions or votes were recorded in the recognition segment.
