A representative from the Ruters Cooperative Extension water resources program described the extension’s role in supporting green infrastructure projects such as the North Edison rain garden.
"So what we do is uh green infrastructure uh so it's basically projects like this you know uh projects to manage uh storm water runoff from buildings you know parking lots any any you know pvious impervious surface," the extension representative said, summarizing the program's focus on reducing runoff, alleviating flooding and preventing erosion. The speaker framed the rain garden as a practical example of the extension's work with municipalities and community groups.
The representative emphasized that green infrastructure projects are intended to slow and absorb stormwater before it reaches storm drains, thereby lowering localized flooding and erosion risk. They positioned the garden as both a demonstration and a functional piece of stormwater management infrastructure that complements municipal work on drainage and site preparation.
