Two volunteers who traveled from Asbury Park described joining the planting to gain experience with green infrastructure and support stormwater management in their own community.
"We're doing it for storm water management in our area beautifification," said one volunteer, who added that this was their first time working on a rain garden and they were "very thankful" to participate. Both volunteers said they wanted to learn practical skills they could bring back to Asbury Park and to support a visible neighborhood environmental improvement.
The segment highlights the project's volunteer and educational components: organizers said they recruited community groups, local volunteers and students to staff planting stations, giving participants hands-on planting experience and practical demonstrations of how native species can be used for runoff control.
