City Administrator Leslie Riverola reported that the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) authorized a Sustainable Places study grant for approximately $138,000 to support planning for the 2440 corridor, with the scope including safety countermeasures, placemaking and potential speed-limit adjustments.
"That is approximately $138,000," Riverola said. She also said the city had preliminary design work and an application prepared for a roundabout at Wolf Creek Parkway and 155th Street and that engineering staff recommended a school crossing for Craig Street and Garden Parkway based on observed pedestrian traffic. Riverola said the engineering team is also evaluating whether a rapid flashing beacon or a four-way stop is the best treatment for the 158th and Garden Parkway intersection, and staff will revisit the topic with the chief and other team members.
Riverola summarized earlier grant proposals that scored well in preliminary MARC scoring, including Baser Town Center Trails phase two pedestrian improvements along 155th Street and Leavenworth Road, potential roadway extensions of Baser Boulevard to 147th Street and downtown corridor improvements. No funding awards beyond the planning grant amount were finalized at the meeting.
