Multiple residents raised concerns that parts of Litchfield lack reliable high-speed internet, affecting telecommuting and daily business. Town staff said the municipality could try to negotiate with franchise holders (Time Warner/Spectrum) and that outreach to alternative providers is in process.
One staff member described options: negotiating franchise terms that incentivize providers to extend service or exploring other carriers where feasible. "We could possibly negotiate with Time Warner regarding the franchise fees that we see to have maybe swap some of that please to offer services that like folks that don't have it," the staff member said, summarizing ongoing outreach to providers. The board asked staff to pursue provider contact and to provide a status report at the next meeting so members can consider an ad hoc committee or formal negotiations.
Residents were encouraged to supply addresses and demand information to help staff prioritize areas of need. The board noted that physical distance between homes and existing infrastructure will limit immediate fixes in the most rural pockets but that franchise negotiations and targeted outreach may bring incremental improvements.
