John said the county is conducting a significant non-native removal project on a parcel gifted on the north side of East Fork Creek, primarily focused on eastern wetland areas rather than the portion visible from US-1.
"That needed a pretty significant non-native removal project and that's happening right now," John said, adding that once exotics are cleared the team can "reassess how much needs to be put back in native planting" and fit water-quality features into the site. He said the project follows earlier work that built a stormwater treatment area on the property.
John characterized the project as a restoration that will feed into ongoing watershed and water-quality improvements, and he said the county expects to transition the parcel into maintenance once native plantings and systems are established.
