A Public Works presenter outlined three options for a water-tank for the proposed Nasonville project: a steel spheroid, a welded-steel composite and a glass-fused-to-steel composite. The presenter said the life-cycle analysis found the total project cost would exceed $25,000,000 and corrected an earlier calculation, stating, “The cost to paint in year 40 would be $4,500,000, not $2,500,000,” which changed the 50-year life-cycle comparisons.
Councilors pressed for more installation history, warranty information and independent data on performance in inclement weather. One councilor said he prefers to be a "settler" rather than a pioneer on new technologies, asking for records of where the glass-fused option has been in use and how it held up over time. No decision was reached; staff were asked to collect service-history examples, warranty details and any field-maintenance records to present at a future meeting.
