Commissioner Knight used part of the meeting to recognize Trussville High School's baseball and softball programs after both won Alabama seven-A state championships.
He said the softball team had an overall record of "4910 and one" and noted the baseball team finished 34-9; Commissioner Knight named players and honors, saying player Corey Gorguts hit .521 with 31 home runs and will attend Ole Miss. He presented commemorative items to coaches and asked the crowd to take photos.
Coach Taylor Burke thanked the commission and school administrators and said the team felt "humbled and very honored to be here representing our school and our community." Superintendent Patrick Martin and athletic director Lance Walker also thanked the commission for continued support of academics, arts and athletics.
Commissioners praised the teams' athletic and academic achievements and encouraged residents to attend games in the new Bill Roberts Stadium.
