Porter County elections staff reported a marked uptick in early voting activity at the board's meeting, saying 730 absentee ballots had been issued and 70 had been returned so far.
"We've had 730 ballots issued already and we've received 70 of them back," the elections staff member said, noting the returns are almost ten times higher than in the primary. The staff framed the numbers as an indicator of increased early participation and said the office will continue outreach on social media and the county website.
Board members asked brief clarifying questions about usual return patterns and timing; staff said the totals align with expectations for a regular midterm cycle and offered to continue reporting updates at subsequent meetings. The board did not take any formal action tied directly to the report.
