Tony Pitman, commander of VFW Post 9013, said the organization sold its building after maintenance and financial pressures but that the post remains active in the community. "The building is gone, but the VFW is still alive and active in Westboro," he said, adding the post has continued scholarships, food-truck donations and other community support.
Pitman said the VFW now meets at Prototype gym for monthly gatherings and uses donated space for events. He described a Row for Westborough fundraiser that has raised roughly $25,000 a year and supports youth-sports access in town. "We're providing a stipend for them to help pay for plane tickets back home for visiting," he said, describing a small stipend program for enlistees from Westborough.
The VFW commander urged veterans to get involved, saying informal programs such as coffee meetups and community events can help veterans find purpose after service and reestablish social connections. Pitman encouraged veterans to contact the post or town VSO for help with benefits or to learn about upcoming activities.
