Chair Brandon Jackson announced at the start of the Sept. 24, 2026 Prince George's County Board of Education business meeting that the public session would be closed under the Open Meetings Act so the board could discuss a set of sensitive items. "This meeting will now be closed to discuss the following matters as permitted under General Provisions Article 3-305b 1 2 3 4 5 7 8 12 13 and 14 of the Open Meetings Act," Jackson said, listing internal audits, annual financial statements and risk assessment, legal matters and personnel matters among the topics.
The motion to close the public meeting was put to a roll-call vote and adopted with six members in the affirmative, after Mr. Garrett called the roll. The board then recessed to the executive session room to consider the matters Jackson enumerated; no public deliberations or decisions on those items were made during the open meeting. The board's action is procedural: the vote authorized closed-session consideration of audits, personnel actions (including superintendent and executive appointments), appeals and investigations, charter-school and transportation updates, and capital improvement and program matters.
