Betsy Moquin, a member of the Westboro Good Scout Committee, announced that Dan Flood has accepted the honor as the Town of Westborough Good Scout 2026 honoree and encouraged the community to attend the Nov. 4 fundraiser to support local scouting programs.
The event recognizes a resident or local business for contributions to the community and raises money that stays in Westborough to help scouts with camp scholarships, supplies and local service projects. "It gives us a chance to honor someone from Westbrow or a business owner in West Bro who's done a lot of good for the community," Moquin said during the interview.
Flood, who serves on the Good Scout committee, said he was surprised to be chosen. "I was shocked like I was talking to you earlier," he said, describing how committee members Moren Johnson and Ian first approached him about accepting the honor. He told the host the selection felt humbling and that being younger than many past recipients makes the choice notable to him.
Flood traced his long involvement in scouting from Cub Scouts through Boy Scouts and the Venture Crew, and described an Eagle Scout project that renovated an underused science space at St. Peter Central Catholic in Worcester so it could serve as a classroom. "That was kind of my goal — I wanted to do something that would be there so I could go back and look at it later in life," he said.
The Good Scout evening typically features a scout speaker and a presentation of the honoree; Moquin said tickets and table sponsorships are available through the scouting website and that proceeds are used locally. The committee asks honorees to stay involved for a time after the event to help select future recipients and assist with fundraising outreach.
