The Windham Board of Education on Aug. 19 approved $4,258,272.19 in budget transfers and signaled it will consider adopting a 0% budget after the Board of Finance, Mr. Mark Doyle said, appears to have canceled a planned referendum. The Finance & Audit Committee recommended the transfers and adoption of a 0% budget; the Board voted to approve the transfers on a motion by Doyle, seconded by Catherine Aill F3n Pomo.
"The good news to announce is that due to proper budgeting and budget control from Dr. Gomero and Mr. Dolphin, we're ending the year without a deficit, and we'll have a little money that'll be put into the 2% set aside," Doyle told the Board. The transfers were presented as part of year-end adjustments and to cover capital and operating needs identified by staff; the Finance & Audit report also noted the football co-op program received CIAC approval. The Board did not take a separate formal vote at the meeting to adopt the 0% budget; Doyle said the Board of Finance's action effectively canceled the referendum originally scheduled for Sept. 22.
