University leadership presented metrics showing strong campus engagement and progress toward strategic goals. Trustees were told this fall brings the largest incoming freshman class in ETSU history and that overall enrollment is on a positive trend; preliminary figures mentioned an overall enrollment of about 14,506 and a record first‑year retention rate of 78.4%.
Dr. Hoff and President Brian Noland discussed performance indicators: a 4‑year graduation discussion (preliminary 49.4% figure with cohort effects noted), research and sponsored programs approaching $70 million, and plans for capital projects such as integrated health sciences and housing work targeted for 2027 groundbreakings. Leaders stressed that rising campus density and engagement (increased use of student services, preview and welcome-week participation) reflect the institution's emphasis on student success.
"The retention rate this fall is the highest retention rate in the history of the university," a presenter told trustees, and the administration said it will return in November with more-detailed housing plans and a spring briefing on due diligence for potential projects.
The board heard that budget posture is balanced, with plans to invest in faculty and staff and maintain reserves while continuing to monitor the Voyager systems transition.
