The superintendent told commissioners that the first AMI collection antenna, installed at Westwood Road, is already returning roughly 2,300 readings and that the contractor has gathered more than 2,000 readings in testing. "We were able to obtain over 2,000 readings," the superintendent said, adding staff will perform more testing and install additional antennas on other tanks to improve collection rates.
Staff explained the system can miss readings depending on the time window when the device polls the meter and that adding antennas to tanks should increase coverage. Commissioners discussed how tree cover and single-metered multi-unit properties affect reading frequency; staff said the network's software can eventually flag excessive use and help identify leaks once townwide coverage is achieved.
The superintendent said the meter-reading data will support more proactive leak detection and customer notification once fully deployed.
