Staff reviewed the Tahoe Community Center feasibility study and final survey results, saying more than 1,200 respondents and about 600 comments showed interest across concepts but also questions about access, cost, funding mechanisms and operations.
Ken Boyd (speaker 14) summarized the three high-level concepts and the proposed public meeting format: a short presentation of the "why" and the three concepts, a Q&A period, and opportunities for attendees to sign up if they are willing to volunteer or potentially lead fundraising. Boyd said staff will prepare FAQs and cost/operating assumptions and test live polling if venue Wi-Fi allows.
Board members debated the role of a citizen-led advocacy group and whether sign-up sheets at the meeting are appropriate. Several directors said they want the meeting to remain a broad information session, not a design workshop, and that the sign-up approach should be explicit about expected time commitments and potential advocacy roles. Staff said the next substantive board follow-up will be in January when the long-term financial plan is updated and staff will return with refined fiscal impact analyses.
No vote was taken; the board approved proceeding with meeting planning, material preparation and outreach. Staff said they will present a draft meeting presentation to the board if the directors want a preview before Oct. 20.
