The Dallas County Planning & Zoning Commission approved a conditional-use permit for a 200-foot telecommunications tower on Parcel 0718400006 in Sugar Grove Township, voting 3–2 on the motion to approve with conditions.
Ira Brown, representing Telecom Services, said the leased ground footprint would be about 100 by 100 feet and that the tower would serve network needs for Verizon. Several nearby residents, including Pat Skeffington, opposed the location citing aesthetics, blinking lights and possible impacts on wildlife and property values. Skeffington told the commission she believed the site was historically important and said, "citizens are suffering because someone wants to make money." Planning staff noted the proposal met local setback requirements and flagged that state law constrains some local authority over wireless siting; the commission nevertheless applied eight recommended conditions before approving the permit (Ayes: Taylor, Thompson, Hegarty; Nays: Hutzell, Steigleder).
The commission’s approval will go to the Board of Adjustment for administration of required permits. Staff noted that tower lighting would meet minimum code requirements and that lease terms and any additional mitigation may be negotiated between the tower operator and the landowner.
