Magnolia ISD board certifies compliance with SB 12, adopts notification procedures for employees and contractors

Dr. King briefed trustees on the new annual certification requirement derived from Senate Bill 12 and relevant Texas Education Code sections, explaining that districts must certify by Sept. 30 that they are in compliance with prohibitions on assigning diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) duties. King reviewed the affected board policies (BT legal, DH local, EMB legal and CJ local), explained employee notification steps (email with links and physical copies in principals' offices), and said the district found no cost savings tied to the change.

After a public hearing with no speakers, trustees approved the certification by majority vote and Dr. King said he would submit the documentation to the Texas Education Agency. King emphasized that the changes are largely policy clarifications and that staff will provide links and printed copies of the relevant policies to employees and contractors.
