At the Kilauea Neighborhood Association meeting on May 5, President Yoshi L’Hote updated the board on the Kilauea Community Agricultural Center, administered by the newly formed nonprofit Aina Hoʻokupu o Kilauea. He said the group has obtained a $2,000,000 liability insurance policy, is soliciting bids for a container-style office and storage area, and expects perimeter-fence construction to begin in May or June.
L’Hote told the board that water-meter applications are still pending and are likely to be approved in about "2-3 months," and that the group plans to submit a conservation plan to the county to seek a grubbing exemption to allow work on more than one acre without a permit. He also said the nonprofit is designing a bathroom modeled on a public restroom in Kekaha and is in early planning for a farmers market area; meetings with nearby homeowners associations and neighbors are being scheduled before further work.
