Yoshito L’Hote, president of the Kilauea Neighborhood Association, updated the board on funding for the community agricultural park. He said the new park board "has been awarded $100,000.00 dollars that will be held by the non-profit umbrella corporation Malama Kauai," and added the state budgeted $120,000 for the park. L’Hote said the awarded $100,000 will not be released until the mayor signs the check, a process he estimated could take about two months.
L’Hote described planned uses for the funds — planning and infrastructure including an office, water meters, perimeter fencing, mowing and road construction — and said he would provide more detailed information to the communications committee for publication on the KNA blog. The report suggests early-stage capital planning will rely on both nonprofit stewardship and state funding, with a pending executive step (mayoral signature) before funds become available.
