James Wardlow, representing the Saint John's Memorial Park group and the Saint John's Street Historical Committee, told listeners the long-planned resurrection of the Saint John's neighborhood is underway and thanked the mayor and collaborating agencies for their support.
"Our project is commencing and going along wonderfully," Wardlow said, describing construction progress at 3500 West Boulevard Drive that will include a large pavilion, a playground, a walking trail and a historical kiosk intended to preserve local memory and culture. He said the committee has existed for some 40 to 50 years and credited the mayor's support beginning in 2021 for bringing the project to fruition.
Wardlow encouraged residents to visit the site to see progress and thanked local partners for grants and assistance that helped move the multi-year effort into construction. City leaders framed the project as part of a broader effort to restore historic neighborhoods disrupted by earlier highway construction.
