City of Flint officials announced an International Overdose Awareness Day event for Aug. 31 on the back lawn of City Hall and emphasized partnerships to expand recovery supports and Narcan distribution through local faith-based groups.
"We're having a great event on the back lawn of City Hall from 4PM to 7PM," a public-health official on the broadcast said, adding that the program will include a keynote speaker, DJ, free food and resource tables to connect residents to mental-health and recovery services. Officials also said Narcan kits have been distributed to partner churches and that the city has worked with recovery partners to increase capacity for care.
During the program the mayor also urged residents to report weapons and cited an anonymous tip line and a reward, transcribed on the recording as "Scribe Stoppers" with the number given as 180422 and a possible reward up to $500; the phrasing and number in the audio appear inconsistent and should be verified with the city before being used as contact information. The broadcast also encouraged residents to contact the city navigation desk at (810) 410-2020 for connections to services.
