Tammy reported the town's second annual household hazardous waste day on Aug. 22 drew more than 100 cars and collected notable quantities of hazardous materials. Tammy provided the following collected amounts from staff records: about 2,000 pounds of paint, 2,000 pounds of pesticides and fertilizers, 800 pounds of corrosive liquids, 400 pounds of flammable liquids, 800 pounds of benzene and toluene, 16 pounds of oil, and 400 pounds of propylene glycol. Tammy said the department has not yet received the final billing for the event.
Tammy also relayed updates from recycling coordinator Liz Bone: quarterly presentations in local schools, salvaging recycling containers from the demolished high school to preserve town property, donation of about 30 boxes of leftover school supplies to Tools for Teachers, and two community "fix-it" clinics organized with local volunteers.
Staff asked the public to watch the town website and social media for future events and outreach opportunities.
