Councilwoman Tish Bracey announced that applications are open for the Wilmington City Youth Advisory Council and urged students to apply by Sept. 30. She described the council as an opportunity for students to learn about city government, see how laws are made and contribute to the city’s youth master plan.
Bracey said, "This is Councilwoman Tish Bracey, and I have some exciting news to share." She then played short testimonials from youth leaders about their experience in the program. One youth speaker said the council helped them "get to know some of my other peers directly in Wilmington" and hear a range of perspectives. Another said, "The problems we see in the city, we get to form a plan and potentially solve them… We are the expert of our own lives," emphasizing that participants bring lived experience to city planning.
The testimonials also highlighted personal benefits. A youth speaker said the program helped guide them toward a more focused career path and opened additional opportunities, and recommended that other students apply. Bracey closed by reminding listeners of the application deadline: "Make sure to get your application in by September 30 so that you can be a part of our next youth advisory council."
