Brownfield program staff told the board that NVCOG has received multiple DECD awards to support environmental site assessments at contaminated or formerly developed properties. Staff asked the board to accept three $200,000 grants for assessments that could inform future cleanup and redevelopment.
"Each of these are 200,000 for environmental assessment," a Brownfields representative said while summarizing the grant purposes for the Derby site, 389 Meadow Street in Waterbury, and the former Seth Thomas Platt Company site in Thomaston. The board consolidated the motions to adopt the three resolutions and approved them by voice vote.
Staff also presented two area‑wide revitalization applications that require board approval to proceed: one to identify redevelopment focus areas near 100 South Riverside in Plymouth and another to develop a redevelopment plan for part of the Brown Brook neighborhood in Waterbury (focus on 526 and 730 North Lane Street). The board moved and approved those applications as well.
