Staff presented results from an outreach effort that drew roughly 1,200 survey responses and about 650 comments and proposed a community meeting on Oct. 20 at the local high school to gather focused input on three high-level concepts: a gymnasium facility, a six-lane aquatic center with leisure pool, and a combined gym-and-leisure-pool option. Staff said the meeting format would include a short presentation, live polling (if Wi-Fi permits), Q&A and note-taker stations, and recommended a sign-up for community members willing to volunteer on future fundraising or advocacy.
Board members emphasized the meeting should open with why the district is considering facilities and then ask open-ended questions to reveal whether passionate citizen advocates exist who could form a fundraising or ballot-support group. Directors also asked staff to prepare clear high-level operational cost estimates and to explain constraints on using other existing facilities (e.g., Rideout, North Tahoe High School) so the public can better weigh preferences against financing and operational realities. Staff said they will prepare FAQs, present high-level operating-model cost estimates and return with additional financial-plan context in January.
