Residents raised technical questions about public‑health guidance after town staff coordinated a presentation from state agencies on contamination of the Cove Hollow wells. Sarah Douglas asked whether the New York State Department of Health had reviewed more recent EPA presentations from 2025 that report developmental toxicity in pregnant rats at lower doses than older studies.
Douglas noted the DOH relied on a 2002 28‑day adult rat study underlying EPA's 2023 PFPrA toxicity assessment and asked whether the agency had reviewed or considered the 2025 EPA Society of Toxicology conference abstract reporting biological changes at the lowest dose tested (10 mg/kg/day). "If not, do these findings affect the department's confidence in the 3 parts per billion screening level or its support for prospective health monitoring for exposed residents?" she asked. Douglas suggested the town obtain independent scientific review of the full emerging evidence base while the science continues to evolve.
Town staff acknowledged the agencies are coordinating follow‑up and scheduled a task force meeting to continue the technical review. Douglas and other speakers urged that evolving toxicology data be considered when setting local screening thresholds and planning prospective health monitoring for affected residents.
