The Clovis City Commission approved a one‑year professional services agreement with Clovis Main Street that increases the city base payment and includes a matching incentive for outside funds. The approved amendment sets a $65,000 base payment with up to $10,000 additional available through a 1:1 match for new fundraising or outside operational revenue, intended to help the organization hire or contract part‑time support and expand downtown events and programming.
Clovis Main Street Director Helen (Tankersley) described a growing downtown calendar — monthly Food Truck Fridays, a children's entrepreneur fair, a Christmas parade and plans for railroad‑heritage events — and emphasized staffing constraints with a single employee handling many projects. "We've never been more excited about what's happening downtown, but we're severely understaffed and need some help," she said. Commissioners debated whether the match should exclude recurring events or only apply to new revenues; the approved language permits match from outside City of Clovis funds and explicitly excludes lodgers‑tax revenue.
The motion to approve the amended option passed unanimously. The contract is a one‑year agreement and will return for future consideration as part of normal budget and program reviews.
