The committee was briefed on next steps after voting to recommend corrective actions: staff from the Legislative Human Resources Division will compile executive summaries of the committee's determinations and the recommended range of actions and submit them to House leadership for implementation.
"Those documents will identify the respondent," Ben Fitzsimons said, adding that if leadership declines to act within the committee's recommended range or adopts actions outside that range, "they must justify that decision to the committee in writing. And if the committee is dissatisfied with their justification, you can make that public along with your reasons why you find that to be insufficient."
Fitzsimons said the authority to implement the recommendations rests with House leadership and that HR will support drafting and finalizing the materials. Representative Soper suggested appointing a small team—chair and vice chair—to edit the executive summaries rapidly before sharing them with the full committee; Fitzsimons said HR can accommodate that approach.
