Director of Schools Mister Mayfield presented the director’s report, noting the district’s current enrollment stands at 20,612 and that leadership and support ratios are calculated at the district level (leadership about 319 students per administrator; support staff roughly 79 students per support position). Mayfield cautioned that the way the state report card captures transfers to a new school can make retention appear worse than internal HR figures indicate: "When we open a new school and teachers leave this school and go to the new Central Pike, it looks like our teacher retention went down," he said.
The board also discussed operational issues: trustees raised concerns about late buses and driver shortages and asked staff to investigate reports (including reviewing bus camera footage where needed). Mayfield acknowledged continuing HVAC problems at several sites, saying some rooftop units are so old replacement coils must be custom-made and repairs are ongoing; he said staff will continue to prioritize classroom units and bring broader facilities needs to a board retreat for planning.
