Representatives from Show Me Christian County presented projects and funding needs and asked the commission to continue financial support. The presenters highlighted a roughly $2,000,000 Straight Line campus project, a Highlandville comprehensive plan supported with about $18,000 in outside funding, a $7,500 grant used to buy park benches, and tourism marketing efforts enabled by a Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) designation and matching state funds.
"It was about a $2,000,000 project, and it's gonna have about 20 new jobs that are just gonna be located here in the county," one presenter said, describing the Straight Line campus. The presenters also said the organization had achieved 501(c)(3) status and received matching opportunities through the Missouri Division of Tourism.
Commissioners weighed the request amid tight county finances and declining sales-tax revenue. One commissioner recommended keeping the organization's funding at $40,000 rather than restoring it to $50,000 because the county must prioritize internal staffing and core services. After discussion, a motion to approve $40,000 for the annual contract passed on a roll-call vote. Commissioners asked the organization and staff to pursue options for multi-year commitments, measurable deliverables for higher funding levels, and to report back to the commission.
