At the Sept. 17 Port Washington Board of Education meeting, district staff announced a public hearing for Oct. 8 to consider appropriations from a repair reserve the community funded in May 2026.
Miss Manuel told the board that $1 million in excess funds were deposited to the repair reserve as of June 30, 2026, and that the administration will propose appropriating just over $500,000 for four non‑recurring facility needs. She listed the preliminary cost estimates: boiler repairs of about $257,000; masonry and waterproofing of $93,000; asphalt and blacktop repairs of $73,000; and athletic field irrigation at $78,000.
Under New York General Municipal Law 6‑D, the board must hold a public hearing and then secure board approval in two separate votes before expending repair‑reserve funds. The administration said it will post the hearing notice in accordance with applicable law and discuss the appropriation proposal at the Oct. 8 meeting.
The proposed repairs, if approved, would be funded from the voter‑authorized repair reserve rather than the district’s operating budget; the board did not vote on appropriations at the Sept. 17 meeting and instead scheduled the required hearing.
